With patience, a sense of humor, and an ability to relate musical concepts to people of widely differing backgrounds, Zachary Zaitlin fosters a stimulating and enriching environment for students of all ages and skill levels. He works with each student’s individual strengths and goals to create a well-rounded course of study that inspires and challenges, employing theory and listening activities, composition assignments, and repertoire in a variety of styles. Zach believes that a solid understanding and appreciation of the theoretical and historical context of piano music is key to fostering the profound and joyful musical experience he strives to help his students attain. Rich, committed musical study instills passion, self-discipline, and intellectual curiosity in students, and Zach works to pass on this experience on to all his students! Zach received a B.A. in Music from Swarthmore College, where he earned the Melvin B. Troy Prize in composition. At Swarthmore, Zach studied piano with Marcantonio Barone; composition with Gerald Levinson; received a thorough training in music theory and music history; and worked as a vocal director for a cappella and musical theatre ensembles. Always striving to expand his knowledge of the piano and the art of teaching, Zach currently studies with master teacher Dr. Carol Rich. In addition to his classical background, Zach is an active performing rock artist and composer - listen to his music and learn more here. Zach enjoys working with aspiring composers, songwriters, and music theory enthusiasts to help find their voice and meet their goals. He has also worked in the music industry – as an intern with The Philadelphia Orchestra, and for Theodore Presser Co., America’s oldest music publisher. Zach would love to meet you and discuss what you or your child is looking for in music studies! |
